Bragança aerodrome moves forward with 32 million euro modernisation plan

Avião

The Municipality of Bragança has unveiled a modernisation plan for its Municipal Aerodrome worth 32 million euros, divided into eight phases. The plan, which has already received favourable assessments from the CCDR-Norte and Portugal's National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), was announced during the Careto AirShow on July 10th, alongside the signing of a cooperation protocol between the municipality and ANAC.

The project includes the renovation of the terminal, runway extension, new access roads, hangars and the acquisition of an instrument navigation system that will allow landings in adverse weather conditions. The runway has already been resurfaced, and a funding application is under way for the main building. The long-term goal is for the aerodrome to handle regional and medium-haul flights carrying up to 150 passengers — a development that would transform accessibility to the Transmontane northeast.

For anyone visiting or planning to visit Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, this is significant news: a territory already renowned for its authenticity, gastronomy and centuries-old olive groves will, in the coming years, become considerably closer — not just to Lisbon and Porto, but to Europe.
