OUR HISTORY
Olivotourism is a type of tourism that involves visiting olive trees, olive groves and participating in activities related to olive oil, its production and consumption.
It is a rural tourism option that has gained popularity in several olive oil producing regions around the world, such as Spain, Italy and Greece.
Tourists have the opportunity to learn about the history, culture and tradition related to olive tree cultivation and olive oil production, as well as being able to taste different varieties of olive oil and participate in activities such as olive harvesting, always in the northern interior of Portugal.
A Region with so much value
Having been part of the nation since almost its birth, it is a region full of heritage and tradition, crossed by many municipalities.
From Montezinho Park to the beginning of the Douro, there is a lot to visit.
Between parks, valleys and hills, getting to know a demarcated olive oil region has a lot to show and explore.
Ancient trees that have looked at us since before the creation of Portugal, and have provided the inhabitants with the Olive Oil that is known.

“Azeite a Norte” is a project dedicated to the regional and business valorization of olive oil produced in Trás-os-Montes. The main objective is to promote local olive culture through integrated tourist experiences involving olive oil producers, cooperatives, restaurants, accommodation, heritage and tourist entertainment companies.
The project aims to provide tourists with a complete immersion in the region’s olive culture. This includes structured visits, olive oil tastings, workshops, and the use of olive oil in combination with local or traditional products. Furthermore, it seeks to integrate these experiences into the offerings of travel agencies and promote dissemination through the press and other media outlets specializing in tourism.
Azeite a Norte Association
The Azeite a Norte Association was established in August 2025.
With its corporate purpose "to promote, enhance, dynamize, and develop olive tourism in the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region, aiming to foster the sustainable economic, social, and cultural development of the region through the theme of olive oil," it began managing and monitoring the project's activities.
Its creation aims to broaden its scope of action, create dynamics with other stakeholders, and develop the partnerships necessary to dynamize the project.
The Azeite a Norte Association will enable the project's sustainable development and expansion.
IPB Protocol
Azeite a Norte Association and Polytechnic Institute of Bragança signed a protocol
A collaboration agreement was signed on September 10, 2025, with the aim of promoting initiatives that foster scientific and technical cooperation between IPB and Azeite a Norte.
A partnership was also established to integrate EsACT-IPB students into curricular projects/internships at Azeite a Norte.
Since May 2025, Azeite a Norte has been a member of "The Routes of the Olive Tree".
A Cultural Route of the Council of Europe created to promote "Sustainable Development and Intercultural Dialogue Routes".
