Sometimes, when we talk about activities to do in the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region, we hear the question: "But what is there to do there if we spend a few days?"

Although, from our perspective, the objective is to get to know the region and do olive tourism, learning about the olive tree and its fruit, those who travel to the region for several days may want other activities, for example, in nature.

Or things linked to the culture and history of that part of the country.

But, although at first glance it may seem that there are few things to do, or that they are things for the summer season, nothing could be further from the truth.

In this post we will focus on some of the outdoor activities and others of the kind.

Any olive tourism itinerary can include these options to get to know the region, its people and customs.

It is important to remember that, as is the case in many regions of our rectangle by the sea, even in a small space there are significant changes in the terrain, ranging from the landscape to culture and habits.

Which also happens in Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro.

From the mountains of Montesinho to the Douro valley, there is much to explore and discover, between valleys and plateaus.

But let's get to the activities.

• Montesinho Natural Park: Located in the northern region of the municipalities of Bragança and Vinhais, it is one of the largest natural parks in Portugal. It offers trails for hiking and observing local fauna and flora.
