The TasteAtlas Awards 2025/26 has just placed Trás-os-Montes in 12th position among the 100 best gastronomic regions in the world. Bragança appears in 98th place, reinforcing the importance of Trás-os-Montes gastronomy on the global map. Trás-os-Montes DOP olive oil shines with 4.7 points, and Mirandela Alheira sausage is now considered the best cooked sausage in the world.

TasteAtlas, a global platform dedicated to traditional gastronomy, analyzed 477,287 valid reviews to build the 25/26 rankings, which include the “100 Best Food Regions in the World” and various product categories.
Trás-os-Montes achieved 12th place in the ranking of the 100 best gastronomic regions in the world by the TasteAtlas Awards 2025/26, with a score of 4.34. This distinction is no accident — it reflects centuries of tradition, a deep connection between the people and the land, and unique products that embody the identity of a territory.
Among the Trás-os-Montes products highlighted in this global recognition, the Trás-os-Montes DOP Olive Oil shines with particular intensity. Six Portuguese regions are part of the world's Top 100: Alentejo (9th), Trás-os-Montes (12th), Algarve (30th), Azores (56th), Coimbra (91st) and Bragança (98th).
The results of the TasteAtlas Awards also confirm Portugal's place at the top of world gastronomy: the country occupies 4th place among the best cuisines in the world, with 4.53 points, and seven Portuguese regions are part of the global Top 100.

In the cooked sausage category, Mirandela Alheira secured first place in the TasteAtlas Awards 25/26, surpassing international references such as Kiełbasa wędzona from Poland and Chistorra from Spain.
A traditional sausage of Jewish-Portuguese origin, smoked over olive or oak wood and prepared with a mixture of meat and bread, Alheira de Mirandela is today one of the most recognized symbols of Trás-os-Montes gastronomy, frequently highlighted in global guides and lists of traditional food.
Trás-os-Montes Olive Oil: DOP Excellence
With 4.7 points, Trás-os-Montes DOP Olive Oil is obtained from native varieties — Cobrançosa (30%), Verdeal Transmontana (25%), Madural (20%) and Cordovil (10%). The DOP covers 47,000 hectares and 6,000 family farms. (Olive Oil Times).
