From Geosite to Olive Grove - two days of fun!
Organizer:
SunAzibo and Acushla
If you have more than a day to explore the region, how about a route that, in addition to olive oil, introduces you to some of the region's gems?
We suggest a trip from Macedo de Cavaleiros to Vila Flor.
Hop between olive trees and green spaces, with partners helping you along the way, seeing things both new and old.
For the first day, we'll visit Macedo de Cavaleiros.
You have accommodations here, so you'll have to choose.
If you want to stay in those parts,
One suggestion is Monte Bela Vista. But there are also hotels and other options in both the Macedo and Vila Flor areas.
On this day in Terras de Cavaleiros, we'll count on the help of our partners at SunAzibo to show you the good things about the Terras de Cavaleiros GeoPark, which is located here and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The proposal involves the "Discovering the Geopark" experience.
It's a full-day program, but not overly demanding (in any case, any adjustments or other needs should be discussed during the reservation process).
The program is:
"...visit geosites, sites of geological interest in the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark, accompanied by a geologist guide who will take you on a journey through millions of years of Earth's history. You can learn to make homemade bread with locals and enjoy a delicious Trás-os-Montes lunch in a traditional restaurant, or a pleasant picnic in the wonderful landscapes of the Sabor River.
Later, you will board at the Azibo Reservoir Pier and begin an unforgettable experience of perfect communion with nature, a visit to the wildest and most natural side of this reservoir aboard our eco-friendly, solar-powered, zero-pollution, and 100% silent vessel. You can also dive into these clear, warm waters and then enjoy a drink and snack served on board."
A full day, but only with good things.
On the second day, we'll go to Vila Flor and a producer.
To do so, we'll visit Acushla, an organic olive oil producer, and spend the morning in the olive groves.
Here, you'll be able to stroll through the olive groves, from the youngest to the oldest, and if it's the season, you might even pick the olives.
You need to book in advance and check tour prices depending on whether you're visiting with a family or a group, for example. But you can visit the mill (if it's the season to see it in action) and enjoy olive oil tastings with the olive oil experts who work at Acushla.
It's a delight to stroll through these green spaces.
Acushla is located in Quinta do Prado (and you can find out more, or contact us, (here), and has more than one option for visiting the olive grove.
If you'd like, Acushla also offers accommodations. Ask and BOOK in advance.
If you enjoyed the tours, you still have a little afternoon to stroll through the historic center of Vila Flor or visit some more touristy spots, like the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Assumption.
Or perhaps have tea or something fresh and a sweet treat at Casa das Tias (location), also in Vila Flor, but that's up to you.
It's an activity that can be done any time of year, and in spring and fall it can be magical.
But there's nothing like being prepared beforehand by having the right equipment, in case the weather permits a particular item.
There are also some hiking trails you can take.
Some short, some longer. And there are also circular ones.
Here are some suggestions:
Some example trails:
PR10. Rota Moinho das Olgas: A short 7.3 km route, classified as easy, starting in Bagueixe.
PR07. Rota da Azenha: An 11.4 km route of medium difficulty, starting in Morais.
PR12. Rota Fraga dos Corvos: An easy 3.1 km route, starting from Vilar do Monte.
PR02. Trilho Ricardo Magalhães: A circular trail starting and ending in Santa Combinha, which follows the banks of the Azibo Reservoir.

Where to Eat and Sleep
In this suggestion, you can arrange some of the meals with the organizers.
On the first day, if you stay in Macedo de Cavaleiros, there are a few places to stay if you want to eat out.
For overnight accommodations, we recommend Monte Bela Vista, a tourist village.
Depending on the group size, you may find a good option here, close to all road access points.
More information is available on the website. https://montebelavista.pt/
How to get around?
The best way to get there is by car.
You can travel from Porto and other locations by bus to Macedo de Cavaleiros.
And depending on your departure point, you can even fly to Bragança.
However, getting around between locations is easier by car.
