Acushla

Acushla was born from the passion of a man, from the strength of an emotional click that allowed several generations of the same family to unite around the olive growing business.

The olive tree, for the beauty, spirituality, resistance and longevity it transmits, has always fascinated Joaquim Moreira, the project's mentor. It was the result of this passion that this textile and fashion entrepreneur, who spent a large part of his professional life in large urban centers, working at the frenetic pace that cities impose, decided to embrace an alternative project, linked to the land and in total respect by nature.

The choice of the name Acushla, a word of Celtic origin that means “beat of my heart”, arose from the search for a unique expression that would translate all the concept and emotion associated with the birth of this project that materialized in 2006.

It was on the land of Quinta do Prado, in Vila Flor, located in the region of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, that Joaquim Moreira, after much effort in studying the areas with high potential for olive production in Portugal, found the place ideal for producing excellent olive oil.

With 14 hectares of century-old olive groves and 200 hectares of new olive groves, the farm has approximately 70,000 olive trees, making it one of the largest organic production areas in the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro region.

In fact, with environmental concern and the contribution to a more sustainable world being one of the pillars of the Acushla project, we chose organic farming, in which olive groves are cultivated using techniques that respect natural life cycles and reduce environmental impact, excluding, for example, the use of pesticides and other chemicals, and in absolute respect for the procedures defined by the organic production method, provided for in European and American legislation in the sector.
