Miranda do Douro
A 25 km circular trail of moderate difficulty, starting and finishing at the Miranda do Douro Cathedral. One of the richest trails in the Douro Internacional Natural Park, exploring the northern part of the park with breathtaking scenery, historic remains and remarkable biodiversity. The trail climbs to the Castro de Vale de Águia (Iron Age hillfort), passes through the villages of Vale de Águia and Aldeia Nova, and reaches São João das Arribas — one of the most iconic viewpoints of the International Douro, with views over the river and Spain. In Pena Branca you can visit the Miranda Donkey Sanctuary. The return follows the River Fresno. Frequent sightings of griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, golden eagles and black storks. Can be done on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. Source: trilhosecaminhadas.pt / CM Miranda do Douro.
