Castro de Avelãs
PP1 BGC
Bragança
A 9 km circular trail of easy difficulty, starting and finishing in Castro de Avelãs. The village, barely six kilometres west of Bragança, is famous for its important hillfort settlement and its celebrated medieval monastery of Hispano-Romanesque architecture — of which the beautiful semicircular apse with brick cladding remains, showing clear influence of Leonese art. The route follows a plateau area at average altitudes around 500 metres, cut through by the Ribeira de Fervença, a tributary of the Sabor. Waymarked and guide edited by CM Bragança.
