Description and Content
The Azibo Reservoir Eco-trail runs for approximately 15 km along the southwest bank of the Azibo Reservoir, classified as a Protected Landscape. The route passes by the beaches of Fraga da Pegada and Ribeira — both Blue Flag awarded and chosen as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal's Beaches.
The biodiversity is exceptional: Azibo is a stopover point for migratory birds (waders such as the avocet, oystercatcher, and golden plover) and habitat for residents such as the mallard and the great crested grebe. The Protected Landscape is part of the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark (UNESCO Global Geopark).
Water activities are available on the beaches: sailing, windsurfing, rowing, canoeing, aqua park, and inflatables. The beaches have changing rooms, toilets, and lifeguard supervision during the bathing season.
