Description and Content
The Macedo de Cavaleiros section of the Tua Ecotrail extends for approximately 24 km, crossing the Protected Landscape of the Azibo Reservoir and the Natura 2000 network sites of the Sabor, Maçãs, and Romeu rivers.
The route follows the old Tua railway line in a scenic stretch, passing alongside the Azibo Reservoir—classified as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal's Beaches—and through the territory of the Terras de Cavaleiros Geopark (UNESCO Global Geopark).
The old Macedo de Cavaleiros Station is planned to become the Geopark's headquarters. The section between Quadrassal and Grijó (8 km) is nearing completion, with the remaining 11 km already tendered.
Recommended season:
All year round. Ideal for spring due to the flowering season.
Does it pass through an olive grove?
Olive tourism notes:
Proximity to olive oil producers in the municipality. Traditional olive groves visible along the route.
