Description and Content
A restored section of the old Sabor Line on the Mirandese Plateau, between Sendim station and the village center. The station has been fully restored and serves as an information point. The 14 km route between Sendim and Duas Igrejas crosses the protected area of the Douro International Natural Park on macadam pavement.
The landscape is dominated by expanses of cereals, traditional olive groves, and cork oak forests, in a region where Mirandese is spoken—the only dialect recognized as an official language in Portugal. The village of Sendim is known for its Posta Mirandesa (Mirandese steak) and the Paulitada tradition (a dance performed by stick dancers).
Recommended season:
All year round. Spectacular scenery in autumn.
Does it pass through an olive grove?
Olive tourism notes:
A region of ancient Mirandese olive groves. Sendim is a regional gastronomic center (Posta Mirandesa). Linked to the Miranda Olive Oil Route.
