Description and Content

The Sabor Ecotrail follows the route of the old Sabor Line railway, inaugurated in 1911, in the section between Torre de Moncorvo and Carviçais. The 24 km offer views over the Sabor Valley and the Serra do Reboredo mountain range, with vistas of the Carmelite Convent of the Holy Family, the old iron mines of Cabeço da Mua, and the Vale de Ferreiros reservoir.

The surface is dirt track, recommended for mountain biking. The first 15 km are predominantly uphill (391m to 693m), with the last 10 km a gentle downhill to Carviçais. Vertical signage covers the entire length, with information boards in various locations along the ecotrail.

In the village of Larinho, the old station has been renovated into a cafeteria. The urban sections of Moncorvo, Larinho, Carvalhal, and Carviçais have public lighting. Traditional olive groves are visible across large areas of the route, in a region where DOP olive oil is produced in Trás-os-Montes.

Recommended season:

Spring and autumn. Very hot summer.

Does it pass through an olive grove?

Olive tourism notes:

Percurso atravessa extensas áreas de olival tradicional. Ligação directa à produção de azeite do concelho de Torre de Moncorvo.
