Murça

A mixed municipality of “cold land” and “hot land”, it is crossed by the Tinhela river and partly marked by the Tua river.
Its production of olive oil and wine is appreciable. Constituting part of the Demarcated Region of Douro and Trás-os-Montes, its essential economy is winemaking (although closely associated with olive oil).
The name of the parish is the subject of different opinions. One of these opinions says that it derives from the number of bears that existed in the place. The other opinion says that the original name of the parish and municipality was Muça and not Murça – a Muslim name.
