What you can expect

It's impressive how many elements and points of interest we'll discover on these two routes. Traditions, nature, culture, landscapes, rural life, history, viewpoints, legends, ancestral heritage, religion, archaeology, among other unusual and unclassifiable points of interest. Secrets kept by nature, which appear to us in the most unlikely places as we walk.

As if that weren't enough, there are breathtaking viewpoints in a natural setting typical of the Mirandese Plateau, which is divided between the agricultural landscape and the vertiginous cliffs of the deep Douro River valley.

Program

DAY 1

The meeting point is in the village of Urrós, Mogadouro.

The parish of Urrós is a true treasure trove of surprises. And this route proves it. Both in the village and in the surrounding natural spaces, we are surprised by places and points of interest, offering a wide variety of experiences.

We follow the mystical trail of São Fagundo, through a typically agricultural and rural landscape, to explore the mills of Couço, Altarico, the Castle of Bouça D'Aires, the Moorish Footprints and, naturally, the ruins of the São Fagundo cape. There is also a secret viewpoint, a landmark of the International Douro, only for the brave. We couldn't end better, with a visit to the bodegas, the old refrigerators carved into the rock.

Difficulty level – Moderate, Level 2e 4

This hike is recommended for people with experience in hiking in nature and who are in good physical condition. The route, of medium distance, has some accumulated elevation gain, some sections with steep slopes and uneven, sometimes rugged terrain, which requires moderate physical effort and stamina to walk for 2 to 4 hours.

DAY 2

The meeting point is in the village of Peredo de Bemposta, Mogadouro.

We follow the Trail of Legends where we will discover enigmatic crags (rocks), learn about the Legend of the Serpent and other stories that prove the ancient relationship between Portugal and Spain. Much of the route is done with views of the cliffs of our Spanish neighbors, from which an imposing rocky promontory stands out, always on our horizon.

We will explore Pala dos Mouros, an ancient rock shelter, and finish dazzled by the views at the Picões Viewpoint.

Schedule – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Distance – 12 km

Accumulated elevation gain – 480 m

Difficulty level – Moderate, Level 2 of 4.

This hike is recommended for people with experience in outdoor walking and who are in good physical condition. The route, of medium distance, has some accumulated elevation gain, some sections with steep slopes and uneven, sometimes rugged terrain, requiring moderate physical effort and stamina to walk for 2 to 4 hours.
