Hiking in Montesinho Park

With guided hikes you can discover the natural landscape of Trás-os-Montes, Romanesque bridges, geosites, authentic villages, traditions, peek between the mountains, and finish with the flavors of Trás-os-Montes. Our guides are knowledgeable about the trails of the Protected Landscape of the Azibo Reservoir, Caretos de Podence, Douro, Sabor Lakes, Tua Park, Douro Internacional, or the Montesinho Natural Park.

The trail is circular, starting and ending in the village of Montesinho and reaching a maximum altitude of 1300 meters.

Along the way, you will be treated to wonderful views over the Sabor River valley, the Serra da Nogueira, the Sanábria mountains, and the village of Montesinho, idyllically nestled among the hills.

Another possibility is to do the Deer Rutting Trails in Rio de Ono.

The hike begins and ends in the captivating village of Rio de Onor, one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal.

The trail will take you through the rolling hills that embrace the village until you reach the banks of the Rio Onor, next to which you will find a gigantic, centuries-old Black Oak and the imposing Fraga do Rio Onor.

This walking route takes place within the Montesinho Natural Park. If you walk it at dawn or at the end of the day, you have a good chance of spotting deer (bring binoculars, as the area is immense), or at least hearing their bellowing loudly.
