What will the experience be like?
Typically, during a visit to the Miranda Donkey stables, we're asked about the daily lives of the donkeys who live there. What do they eat? Where, how, and how many hours do they sleep per day? Do they respond to their names? Do they have feelings? What can they provide us?
In this activity, we'll learn about their daily habits, behavior, and characteristics, learn more about this native breed, which is important to preserve, and also the history of AEPGA, explaining its mission and objectives.
The visit to the Miranda Donkey Recreational and Educational Activities Center lasts approximately 1 hour and is always accompanied by a guide. Therefore, please make a reservation at least one day in advance.
Reservations must be made by email – reservas@aepga.pt – or by phone +351 925790393/+351 925790396.

Miranda Donkey Appreciation Center
The Miranda Donkey Development Center (CVBM) is located in the village of Atenor, in the municipality of Miranda do Douro.
Since its inception, several renovations have been carried out to ensure the quality of life of the donkeys housed there.
Initially, it consisted of a single stone corral, housing approximately 20 donkeys. Today, the Center boasts a large pavilion that allows for easier manure cleaning, a riding arena for training the donkeys, a small stable that has been used to house the breeding male, a manure pit for converting manure into compost—later used in our oat plantings—and new wooden fences that delimit the Center's various areas and allow wildlife to roam freely, enhancing local biodiversity.
The resources for the Center's revitalization were obtained through great effort, largely thanks to the support of all the members, sponsors, patrons, and friends who trusted the project and contributed their labor or donations.
Today, the Miranda Donkey Appreciation Center is much more than a home for our approximately 60 animals: it is their maternity ward, their school, their playground, and a meeting place for the many visitors who come to meet them every year.
