What will the experience be like?
Authentic seasonal agricultural experience taking place in October and November, with the main objective of introducing participants to the entire process of harvesting, processing, and consuming chestnuts, known as the "gold of Trás-os-Montes."
Along with this experience, we will share with participants the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Caretos de Podence, originating from this same territory.
Trip Plan
This experience includes a visit to a cooperative responsible for the commercialization and processing of chestnuts and other dried fruits, from where we will proceed to a chestnut grove where the chestnut harvest will take place.
In the village of Podence, we will visit the artisan workshop where the costumes and masks of the Caretos de Podence are produced by the artisan Sofia Pombares, and visit a museum.
The day ends with a traditional chestnut roast.
On the weekend of the Corujas Chestnut Fair, the program will be adapted to include a visit to the fair, which usually takes place on the first weekend of November.
A workshop on "Chestnuts in healthy cooking" can be added to the program.
Opportunity to purchase agri-food products directly from the farmer.
