About the event
The Brunhosinho Chocalhada, an ancestral tradition of the Winter Festivals of Trás-os-Montes, will take place in 2026 on January 23rd, in the village of Brunhosinho, municipality of Mogadouro, in honor of Saint Sebastian.
With roots in pre-Christian beliefs, this popular ritual associates the sound of cowbells and bells with the protection of animals, the purification of the village, and the expulsion of evil spirits, preserving a strong connection between community, nature, and rural identity.
The festivity, kept alive thanks to the resilience of the local population and the work of the Confraternity of the Chocalhada in Honor of Saint Sebastian, is today an important example of the intangible cultural heritage of Trás-os-Montes, bringing together inhabitants and natives in a moment of collective celebration.
